Healthy Choice

Joe Sweeney

It’s been a busy time here at Ingram’s over the last month and some of those extracurricular activities are showcased on the pages of this month’s edition.

I want to start this issue by expressing our heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of donors who contributed to the KC Greensburg Relief Effort. Thanks also to the sponsors, teams, and patrons of this year’s CEOpen Executive Golf Tournament. These two important recent initiatives raised nearly $150,000 for eight deserving not-for-profit agen-cies that will in-turn help thousands of people in need throughout our region.

A number of the donors to the CEOpen and particularly the KC Greensburg Relief Effort are individuals and small companies and they all deserve accolades for their selfless giving to these two special projects. You’ll find a complete listing of donors to the KC Greensburg Relief Effort on page 26. Contributors to the CEOpen are listed on page 52. The non profit-agencies receiving funds raised by the KC Greensburg Relief Effort and the CEOpen include the following:

American Red Cross: $70,000

(KC Greensburg Relief Effort)—donations are still welcome.

Kansas City Free Health Clinic: $21,000

      (2007 CEOpen Tournament Beneficiary)

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: $14,000

(won by the Insulite Glass Company CEOpen team)

Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired:

$14,000 (won by the JE Dunn Construction team)

The Challenger Division of the YMCA:

$7,000 (won by the Holmes Murphy team)

Partners of South Side Elementary (POSSE):

$7,000 (won by the Johnson Controls team)

Hope House: $3,500

(won by the Burns & McDonnell team)

Urban Scholastic Center: $3,500

(won by the First National Bank team)

We at Ingram’s congratulate and commend our winning teams and their beneficiaries.

We’d also like to thank our volunteers and the 40 Under Forty planning committee for helping to insure a successful CEOpen and for their help with the recent 10th Anniversary 40 Under Forty events (see pages 10 & 11).

Health & Wellness

As you’ll see this month’s edition of Ingram’s is all about making healthy choices—for the people of our community and for our own individual health and well-being. The Healthcare Quarterly Report, which begins on page 73, includes several illuminating articles on health and wellness and value-based health plans. We hope you find these articles informative and useful. You may find that they also challenge you to re-examine your understanding of the state of our healthcare system.

Finally, if you have an opportunity, please thank the donors and participants of the CEOpen and the KC Greensburg Relief Effort. By giving of their time, talents, and resources, they have demonstrated their own commitment to the health and well being of our community.

Our Best!
