Ingram's Magazine Honors Kansas City's 2006 Top Doctors
Kansas City, you are even luckier than you think.
In our eighth year of selecting area physicians to Ingram’s Top Doctors recognition program, we are amazed once again at the depth and breadth of expertise, knowledge, innovation and—this is no overstatement—brilliance, within our city’s medical community.
And those are the assistants.
(No, we’re not exaggerating. How else do you think we’re able to shoot photos and interview the busiest men and women in the city every year? We do, however, pose a question to all of our Top Doctors: Is there a School for Incredibly Efficient, Calm and Friendly Assistants that the rest of us should know about?)
Back to this year’s Top Docs, who share many similarities. These physicians are passionate about their work, expressing gratitude to be able to do what they love. Eager to discuss the nuances of their speciality, they are even more enthusiastic about their relationships with their patients. Each possesses the sharpest clinical skills but emphasizes the importance of soft skills like listening, communicating, even laughing and crying with patients. Each mentions partners, colleagues and co-workers as a key to success.
Humility and self-effacing humor pop up frequently. Why, we asked, do you think you have been named to this list? “It must have been my turn.” “I have no idea.” And our favorite, “I invite my colleagues to play golf a lot.”
Truth is, these docs come highly recommended by Top Doc alumni, hospital administrators and other healthcare professionals. And yes, we often sought a second opinion.
Bad things happen. But in Kansas City, good people are there to take care of you.
