Commercial
Real Estate 2004
A Call for Synergy

"If you add up the projects under way downtown," said Whitney Kerr, "the
new Shook Hardy building, the IRS Center, the Federal Reserve, the Performing
Arts Center, H&R Block, the new Kansas City Star printing facility,
you are looking at more investment in aggregate in the center of the city
than anyplace else in the metropolitan area."
So saying, Kerr, of Colliers Turley Martin Tucker, set the tone for an
energetic Ingram's Industry Outlook on the subject of commercial real
estate. In fact, Kerr was just one of about twenty-five Kansas City's
real estate leaders who had convened on this cool, late March morning
to discuss the state of their industry.
The discussion that followed proved more forward-looking and upbeat than
any held in the last several years. For all the mixed blessings of the
commercial real estate market nationally, and even locally, one could
not help but sense a quiet optimism that the office and industrial markets
were about to show the kind of strength that the retail market has continued
to show despite adversity.
