Health Care & Community Services

Research Belton HospitalCass County displays a distinctly dual nature in its healthcare services, with urban programs in the north and in Harrisonville, and programs more typical of the region’s small town and rural roots elsewhere. The core of the services involves two excellent hospitals and a number of professional centers.

The area’s biggest medical facilities are HCA-owned Research Belton Hospital and county-owned Cass Medical Center.

Research Belton Hospital is a 70-bed acute care facility offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient services. Situated at the key intersection of Highways 71 and 58, Research’s services include surgery, intensive care, radiology and rehabilitation.

Further south in Harrisonville, Cass Medical Center features an on-site laboratory, pharmacy, physical therapy facility, radiology department, respiratory therapy and surgery center. As a critical access hospital, Cass Medical Center maintains a 22-bed medical/surgical unit, a three-bed intensive care unit, and a 10-bed behavioral health unit.

The Cass County Health Clinic operates from Harrisonville and satellite clinics in Raymore, Belton and Pleasant Hill. With an emphasis on family and children’s service, the clinic’s programs include free or low-cost inoculations for common childhood diseases, senior programs and similar services. Other larger clinics include Belton Family Practice, Grandview Healthcare Center, Midwest Medicine Associates and Raymore Medical Group.

The Cass County Health Department provides public health services such as home health, hospice, maternal-child health and school-age programs. The health department services include immunization as well as child and family services throughout the area.

Cass County also lists a surprisingly high number of licensed residential centers, rehabilitation facilities and homes for older adults. These range from programs that focus on independent living to those for residents with extensive disabilities.

With large stretches of thinly populated rural countryside, Cass County’s emergency services have also devised an efficient system of support that has a positive impact on healthcare. The county’s fire protection districts have developed a system of “automatic mutual aid” to provide assistance to one another during structural fires or other large emergencies.
