Each of the six have earned Missouri's highest “AAA” rating. The area’s two large parochial districts, the Northland Catholic Schools and the Northland Lutheran School Association, are also outstanding.

The public districts include the large North Kansas City Public Schools, Liberty, Kearney, Excelsior Springs, Smithville, Lawson and Missouri City. The Catholic Schools have a network of elementary schools and St. Pius High School. All of Clay County’s public and parochial schools meet the standards of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

In the past five years, Clay and neighboring Platte County graduates have been eligible for more than $10 million in A+ scholarship funding. In 2004-2005 Clay County public schools boasted nine National Merit Scholar honorees and 15 in 2005-2006.
