Clay County health care and related services are themselves experiencing a period of robust health.
The area will soon see a new, 35-bed long-term care hospital to be operated by Northland LTACH LLC, a partnership that includes Liberty Hospital, North Kansas City Hospital and a St. Louis organization.
The new facility is expected to begin construction this year near 68th Street and Highway 169, about one mile south of Metro North Shopping Center. The approved facility will be the first long-term acute-care hospital in the Northland. Such hospitals provide specialized care for severely ill or severely injured patients.
Liberty and North Kansas City saw work on their own main facilities.
Liberty Hospital last year completed its $25 million Medical Plaza East building, an 88,000 square foot building provided for relocation of obstetrics as the Liberty Birthing Center. The addition of this facility allowed the relocation of the Therapeutic Radiologists and on-site radiation oncology.
North Kansas City Hospital was nearing completion of a $137-million expansion and renovation project to provide more space for hospital physicians and staff to continue providing high-quality health care to the community. Most of the new construction was completed in 2005, adding 324,700 square feet to the medical campus. Other renovation projects are still under way.
Excelsior Springs Medical Center opened the Lillian McDavid Independent Living Center, a new retirement community available to active seniors age 62 and older.
Barely two years old, Children’s Mercy Northland has almost filled its original 17,000 square feet of space near Metro North Shopping Center, even after adding 3,000 square feet. The Children’s Mercy Northland Urgent Care Center is designed for children who need treatment for minor illnesses and injuries when primary care offices are closed.
Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital Smithville expanded its NurseLine call center while the Cerner Corporation completed a $5.5 million Health Care Clinic for employees. Tri-County Mental Health Services opened a new skill center in 2005. Tri-County’s main offices are located in the Human Resources Center near Maple Woods College. The Center houses a variety of health and community service programs. |
