Topeka’s specialty hospitals are equally significant. Colmery-O’Neil Medical Center provides a full range of medical, surgical and psychiatric treatment services for veterans. It has 174 hospital beds and 96 nursing home care beds, along with 1,100 employees.
The Kansas Neurological Institute is a 179-bed residential facility for persons with developmental disabilities. The Neurological Institute has 590 employees.
With 187 employees, the Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital is a 79-bed facility dedicated to providing
comprehensive physical rehabilitation services on an inpatient, outpatient and day treatment basis.
The Select Specialty Hospital is located within St. Francis Medical Center and is an acute-care hospital certified by Medicare to provide extended acute-care services. The Select Specialty Hospital cares for patients needing acute services for extended periods.
The Tallgrass Surgical Center is a stand-alone outpatient surgery center located in west Topeka. The facility’s physicians provide outpatient surgery in a setting that offers up-to-date technology and the ease of convenient access and parking.

The Capper Foundation is a private, non-profit, charitable organization, which provides programs and assistive technology for people with physical disabilities, primarily children. Capper also offers pediatric therapy, recreation, integrated preschool, childcare and infant-toddler services.
