Warrensburg's status as a regional business center extends to its role in the health care field. Although Johnson County is sometimes overshadowed by its nearness to facilities in metropolitan Kansas City, the community sees a continued and growing role in health care.
The key is Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC), a fully accredited regional acute care general hospital with a skilled nursing unit and several outpatient services. Located on the city's east side, WMMC offers 92 beds and state-of-the-art technology. Specialties for its medical staff include allergy, anesthesiology, ear, nose and throat, plastic surgery, emergency medicine, gynecology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pathology, pediatrics, podiatry, pulmonology, radiology, and urology.
The Medical Center's in-patient services include a 24-hour emergency room, intensive care unit and medical surgery. Outpatient services include diagnostic X-Ray, cardiac rehabilitation chemotherapy, industrial rehabilitation, nutritional counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy and even sports medicine. Other services include neurology, urology, oncology, pain management, sleep disorders, speech therapy and angiography. Imaging services include mammography, CT scans, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound.
Several medical offices are also located in Warrensburg, including independent surgical facilities. These additional medical services include dentists, chiropractors, optometrists, osteopaths, physical therapists and nursing. Warrensburg also provides a wide range of social support and family service programs. Agencies serving this area include the Johnson County Division of Aging and Family Services, Catholic Charities and INFORM, which provides referrals to parents and others seeking services people with disabilities, especially children.
The Warrensburg Senior Center provides food, fellowship and transportation for area older adults. An active Meals-on-Wheels program provides food services for homebound individuals. Additional social and health care services are provided by Warrensburg Youth Services, Survival House, which assists abused adults, Johnson County Com-munity Health Services, and Hospice Care of West Central Missouri.
A wide range of mental health care, substance abuse treatment and prevention services are provided by Pathways Community Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. Among Pathways services are in-home comprehensive psychiatric rehabilitation, office-based outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment services, as well as adult and adolescent residential substance abuse treatment services.`
