• Johnson County has one of the youngest populations in Missouri. Only 9.3% of its residents are more than 65 years old, 30% below the state norm.

• The county has 11 sites on the national historic register. Among them is the nicely restored Old Johnson County Courthouse in Warrensburg, work on which was begun before there was a Johnson County, Kansas—for that matter, before there was a Kansas.

• In the 1990s Johnson County grew by 12%, roughly double the rate of the state of Missouri.

• In the last year the only people who saw more of the spectacular B2 Stealth bomber than the residents of Johnson County were the residents of Baghdad.

• With more than 6300 military and civilian employees, Whiteman Air Force Base is the largest singlesite employer in Johnson County.

• An estimated 3500 military retirees and their families have made their home in the area.

• Founded in 1871, Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg now offers 150 programs of study both graduate and undergraduate.

• Johnson County ranks well above the state average in both high school and college graduates.

• For all its growth, at 58 people per square mile, Johnson County is only 1/3 as dense as the least crowded county in New Jersey and 1/200 as dense as the most crowded.

• The average Johnson Countian spends 22 minutes commuting to work, below state and national averages, (and the Johnson County figure includes those who choose to walk.)
