2003 Economic Forecast

Partly Cloudy in the Morning. Partly Sunny in the Afternoon. Chance of Serious Storms Throughout the Day.

On the generally cheery post-Christmas morning of December 30, a distinguished group of area economists and bankers met at the invitation of Ingram's Magazine--to discuss the state of the economy, local and national, as America heads into the admittedly volatile year of 2003.

UMB's chief executive officer, R. Crosby Kemper III, welcomed the participants to UMB's executive dining room where the breakfast meeting was held and turned the meeting over to its honorary chair, Tom Hoenig, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. In attendance were Clyde Wendel, President of Bank of America-Kansas City, Bill Greiner of UMB, Frank Lenk of Mid America Regional Council, Ernie Goss of Creighton University, and Doug Houston of KU.

In keeping with tradition, as the headline suggests, Ingram's once again has employed a weather metaphor to summarize the economic forecast for the year 2003. For the record, last year's prediction read as follows, "Grey Skies Throughout Morning, Partial Clearing in the Afternoon."
